Sixth Day of Christmas: Hostess gift - coasters

Heading to someone’s place for a visit this holiday season?  Want to bring a hostess gift that’s just a bit different?  Sure, bring a bottle of wine, but what about a snazzy set of coasters made with your host in mind?  If you’ve got a bit of time and $10 ($5 if you already have podge because you made those awesome superhero ornaments we posted a few weeks ago), this is a lovely little add-on for anyone willing to feed and entertain you for an evening.

As far as supplies, I needed:

  • Scrapbook paper
  • Ceramic tiles (4x4 inch)
  • A pencil
  • A paper cutter, scissors, or a straight edge and a knife
  • Mod Podge
  • A sponge applicator
  • Felt for underneath
  • Glue gun
  • Letter stickers for “monogramming”
The process was pretty simple.  I traced the tiles on the back of the paper and used my cutter to trim it to fit the tiles.  Then I applied a thin layer of podge to the tile and set my paper in place and let the tiles sit for a couple of minutes. Once that had a chance to dry, I podged over top of the paper.

After letting them dry, I thought they still needed a little something.  I decided to add a “G” sticker to each coaster in order to sort of monogram them.  These are going to my mom so I used colours to match her family room, and the G for her last name.

Another layer of podge went over top of the stickers.  And one more after that.  I cut small circles out of felt to glue to the bottom of the coasters.

Finally, I wrapped them up and packed them for travel.
Voila!
